In Garden Series II, Smrita Swarup deepens her exploration of nature’s emotional terrain, shifting the garden from a place of stillness to a moment of transformation. This work unfolds with greater turbulence—an expressive burst of indigo, charcoal, and diffused whites rising like mist or memory from the earth. The scene suggests a garden touched by movement, as though wind, water, or time itself is in motion.
Against this dramatic backdrop, two blossoms emerge steadily from the lower plane -- resilient, luminous, and grounded. Their warm tones of red and gold counterbalance the darker, more fluid strokes, creating a tension between chaos and calm. The layered acrylic textures recall weathered stone, shifting clouds, rushing water, and soft soil, revealing how change shapes the landscapes we inhabit -- externally and within.
Where the first work in the series offers a quiet sanctuary, Garden Series II evokes renewal through disruption. It is a meditation on cycles: of erosion and bloom, of loss and return, of stillness interrupted so that growth may begin again. Swarup’s instinctive brushwork and her interplay of light and opacity invite the viewer into this moment of metamorphosis, asking us to witness beauty not only in serenity, but also in the storm.
