Ryoko Kato

Ryoko Kato started having an interest in art when she was around 16 to 17 years old and was still in high school. Her parents were also art lovers. Ryoko’s first opportunity to paint wasa reproductionof an artwork from the Sung dynasty (宋代),which was based on a picturefound in the catalogue of an auction.

Soon after graduation, Ryoko got married. Shortly after which, the war started. Ryoko’smain focus during the war period was to feed her 3 children. That set her apart from her love of painting.

In her older artwork, she used to paint detailed imagery of flowers and landscape. However, in recent years, she has been exploring further on the essence of nature and capturing it in her paintings with the intention to create artwork that soothes the mind of the viewer. She believes that her thought is in line with ‘Abstract in Tune’, the catchphrase of her son, Hiroshi’s, new gallery.
